Eight years after it first began, Game of Thrones is about to enter its final season – season 8 – which wraps up the Westeros story.
And as Game of Thrones fans get ready for season 8, makers HBO have put security measures in place to stop any major leaks.
The last Game of Thrones season was subject to a number of high profile leaks.
Ahead of Game of Thrones season 7 beginning the entire plot outline leaked on Reddit.
And then during Game of Thrones season 7 two episodes leaked ahead of the official airing date.
These episodes – Game of Thrones season 7 episode 4 and episode 6 – all leaked early and were downloadable on torrent websites.
Both leaked episodes featured major moments, while episode 6 – Beyond the Wall – had some game-changing twists and turns for Game of Thrones.
Ahead of the start of Game of Thrones season 8 HBO have put a number of measures in place to ensure nothing leaks.
Game of Thrones star Iain Glen explained how measures have been put in place to stop any story details leaking.
He said:

“They’re absolutely paranoid now about anyone finding out anything about the series and spoiling it.
“We weren’t allowed a written word on a page.”

Glen added:

“Everything was accessed through iPads with different security you had to get through to access it.
“Which caused a problem for the actors, I have to say.”
While Joe Dempsie explained: “The most palpable difference is just in terms of security.
“I mean security in terms of plot and scripts and any information pertaining to where we might be shooting at any given time.
“During the whole course of season 7 and season 8 I have never laid eyes on a shooting schedule.
“Your filming dates are on a need to know basis. You don’t get hard copies of scripts anymore. They are all on this special app. Which are triple locked.”

With high security in place prior to the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere, it’s highly likely this will continue throughout the show’s final run.
Since Game of Thrones season 7 launched in 2017 HBO has joined forces with other major Hollywood bodies to form an anti-piracy alliance.
The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) boasts members such as Amazon, Netflix and Twentieth Century Fox.
The ACE has been behind a number of Kodi add-on shutdowns and it’s likely they and HBO will be keeping a close eye on potential GoT season 8 copyright breaches.
