R. Kelly has walked out of a Chicago jail after an anonymous person paid the $161,633 that the R&B singer owed in child support.
The person, who officials say does not want to be publicly identified, handed over the check on Saturday to the Cook County clerk’s office for the full amount that Kelly needed to be released from jail.
Kelly had been in jail for three days after a judge ordered that he be taken into custody when he was unable to come up with the entire amount he owed his ex-wife Andrea Lee.
A copy of Kelly’s bond slip where a person putting up money writes their name and relationship to the inmate was left blank on Saturday.
Cook County Chief Policy Officer Cara Smith said the person wanted to remain anonymous.
Two weeks earlier, Kelly walked free from the same jail after being charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse pertaining to three girls and a woman.
A 47-year-old Chicago businesswoman, who was later identified as Valencia Love, posted his $100,000 bail.
On his bond slip in that instance, Love identified herself as Kelly’s ‘friend’.
