The European Union (EU) has reacted to the outcome of the recently concluded presidential and National Assembly election saying it is in agreement with those of the Independent civil society observers.
The spokeswoman for the EU, Maja Kocijancic, gave the EU’s position in a statement in Bruxelles.
Recall that the chief electoral officer, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu declared President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the poll after recording the highest number of votes.
“These results are consistent with independent civil society observations.
“Moreover, important lessons are to be learned, in particular ahead of the State elections next week. It is now the responsibility of all parties and candidates to strengthen democracy and unite the country.”
The EU further stated that its election observers will remain in Nigeria beyond the State and House of Assembly elections and produce a final report with recommendations.
The EU also said it will continue to strengthen its partnership with Nigeria
