Osogbo – Osun State Governor, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola has lauded the extension of issuance of National Identification Card to schools pupils assuring that it will be a good platform for capturing and statistics.
Governor Oyetola made the remarks in his office while being presented with his electronic identification card by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Governor Oyetola who also observed that a nation that cannot identify its own by having accurate data base of its people for proper planning is not a nation noted that the extension of issuance of the card to school is a good development.
He described the electronic identity card as a good innovation that carries all the details of the owner.
According to him, extending the issuance of the card to pupils is a welcome development as it will be a good platform for data capturing and statistics.
Mr Oyetola expressed reservations with the nonchalant attitude of some residents in the State who have not registered for the card or have not collected their own.
Earlier while speaking, the state coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission, Mrs. Omolara Idah had lauded the state government for its support for the federal government programmes.
She also expressed concern about people’s attitude toward data capturing.
She sought the Governor’s assistance in collaborating with local governments and school heads so that the Commission can achieve its goal in Osun.
